My parents make enough money to disqualify me from any financial aid except student loans. My current efc is extremely high do to the fact that they only have one child in college. However they refuse to pay for more than half of my college, leaving me with the full freight price of a college. My brother was in college but then ended up enlisting in the army. Because of this the efc isnt divided in half between two kids anymore. Is there any kind of aid for students like me in this situation?

You parents do not have two kids in school, so their efc doesn’t cut in half for you.

Right so I wad wondering If there is any other kind of aid for anyone in this situation

No I don’t think there is anything for you just because your brother is in the army.

I don’t understand the math here. If they are paying half, you only have the remaining half to pay, not “full freight.”

Are you saying your parents are only willing to pay half of the cost of ANY college, no matter how high or low the cost? That doesn’t make any sense. Is there a fixed dollar amount they are willing to commit to? If you tell us that amount, your stats, and what kind of college you are considering, maybe someone here can suggest affordable options, including perhaps institutions that may offer you merit aid.

That’s already been going on for months in the OP’s other thread.

Oooookay then. So I guess this thread was started strictly to inquire whether a sibling of someone in the military has some special opportunities for financial aid. Those who serve get their own benefits, and one child’s military service frees up more of the family’s resources for the other kids, so I can’t see why OP thinks that would make any sense.

Since the parents no longer have to pay for the sibling, it does seem odd that they won’t pay more for this child. Maybe the first child’s costs were minimal (at a CC), so they never had intended on paying “double”.

Anyway…there isnt’ special aid for families who have one child in the military and the other wants to go to college. That wouldn’t make much sense. The family now has one less mouth to feed, clothe, support, etc.

You can ask your brother if he can assign you his educational benefits. I know active duty members can pass them to children but I’m not sure about siblings.

Nope.
