Essays are good and teacher recs are great, say I am top 1% student they had.

Very strong in all areas except standardized testing. If you could get that a little bit higher you should have no problem to any of these schools.

I won’t sugar coat your chances at the MOST selective schools: You really do not have a very good chance at Stanford. Your SAT score and ECs frankly will not be very competitive for an unhooked applicant. You have other reaches in USC and NYU, but those are much more realistic reaches compared to Stanford.

No way for Stanford, sorry, that is just how it is :). USC, though, I think is a great reach school for you and you have a decent chance of getting in.

@kobepau - Yes, I think you could. You are at around their lower 25% for enrolled students in M and CR, but your Writing is more like their 75%, and since you are planning on doing Journalism, your scores should be fine. Considering your SATs are the weakest part of your app, I think you have a good chance. Also, I’m assuming it is your first choice, so make that clear on your app. USC loses a lot of admits to Berkeley and Stanford, places like that, so they might appreciate the commitment.
