Final College List

For upcoming seniors applying to Pitt…

I was just wondering about everyone’s final list of colleges

Here’s mine…

 1. Pitt
 2. Maryland
 3. U of South Carolina
 4. Clemson
 5. Penn State
 6. Boston College (MAJOR reach for me)
 7. U of Delaware

I might add UConn as a safety school. I’m not sure though.
Honestly, if Pitt is the only school i get into out of all those schools I’ll be happy. If i don’t get into pitt but get into others…i’ll be disapointed but ok with it I guess.

what are your stats?

Just curious, what was your criteria in making your list? I don’t see many commonalities between these schools. Also, are you in-state with regard to Pitt or OOS?

GPA: 3.8 UW 4.1 W
SAT: M 700 CR 640 W 650
Courses: basically all honors classes(final grades were A’s and A- 's except for two B+ ) , took AP US junior year (earned a 4 on the AP exam)
Senior year: 3 APs (AP Calc, AP Stat, AP Gov)
Class Rank: Top 5%…17/299
(white, female, lives in PA)

ECs:
NHS
FBLA (9,10,11,12)
Earth Club (10, 11, 12) (lots of community service w/ this)
Soccer (Varisty 10, 11, 12) (JV 9)
Lacrosse (V 10, 11, 12) (JV 9) (Captain in 10th)
Club Soccer (since 7th grade)
Club lacrosse (fall 2006-present)
Appalachia Service Project(ASP) (3 years) (It’s a week long mission trip most similar to “habitat for humanity”)
Yearbook editor
French Club (9,10,11)

I like schools w/ a large student body. I also like urban campuses or campuses close to a city. (Clemson & Pennstate being exceptions)
To be honest, I’m only really applying to Penn State to make my mom happy. She really likes that school for me. All the schools also have good business programs. Boston College is just really random. I went on a college visit to Boston and just really loved the school.

Oh and I’m in-state.

Uh…im thinking you will get BC with those stats easily. 3.8 UW and a 1990? That’s pretty good.

really?? thanks!

Looks like a good list to me. And yeah, you definately have a good shot at BC.

even if i got into BC…i’m pretty sure i’d pick pitt.

Glad to hear it ^^^. What were you thinking of majoring in? Work a little harder and try to bring up your SAT scores. Of course you are definitely in as it stands, but if you can raise the scores (esp. in CR & W) you would definitely be in consideration for a scholarship of some kind. Honestly though…I’d try applying at some bigger name schools like Michigan, UNC, or UVa. We’d love to have you at Pitt, but at the same time, you have great numbers. If you are looking to do business, while Pitt is good, one of those options would probably be better (conversely, you can’t go wrong with Pitt’s pre-med program). Best of luck though and feel free to pm me if you have any questions. I have pretty deep experience with admissions – not to say I am an admissions counselor, but I’ve gotten a good feel for where people can and cannot get into.

I think your list looks good also but I’d be sure to research the numbers of others from your school that were accepted to Boston College. 1340/1600 might be borderline. I agree with you that BC is a reach for you.

IMO, you stand a good chance of being accepted since you’re in state - but, always, alot will depend upon your competition. Pitt likes to see a challenging course load - so be sure you’re taking as many AP classes as you can handle/as many as your school offers - especially if you’re seeking merit $$$. Good luck!

i’m looking to major in business/film. unc used to be on my list. maybe i’ll look into it again.
thanks for everyone’s comments and advice!

If you are looking at business/film…definitely pick up your SAT’s and shoot for Michigan/USC (southern cal)…both are pretty strong in both areas from what I understand.
