<p>My son, a junior film studies major, wants to buy Final Cut with a belated graduation gift. At his internship last summer (he hasn’t started at this summer’s) and in class this past year, the people that he has talked with say that 7 is better than the newer version. Just for my own information, I checked online for the prices for each version. I thought that I was doing something wrong when I got a price of $1600 for 7 and $299 for X, so I stopped at the Apple Store when I was out running errands. </p>
<p>Version 7 is no longer available from Apple, so the secondary sellers are charging what they can get. I asked the Apple “expert” who said that X is an improvement and does everything that 7 does and does it more easily. </p>
<p>In the past, I have found the Apple geniuses to be pretty helpful. They have told me if I can save money by buying alternatives. Does anyone on here use Final Cut? Is the previous version so much better than X? Or is the Apple genius correct that the new version is better but people stubbornly resist change.</p>
<p>I am asking to satisfy my own curiosity. My son will make the decision on his own how to spend his own money. Well, he won’t make a decision to spend $1600 because he doesn’t have that much to spend but he can either buy X or continue to use the school’s version7.</p>
