I was wondering, if I was waitlisted and ultimately denied admission, is there no chance whatsoever of me attending that school in the Fall?
I’m pretty sure some students may decide not to attend during the summer, so spaces may open up in the class. However, the college has already closed its waitlist.
Is there some appeal process I could try?
Anyone?
This sounds bad, but I’m desperate for advice!
If you were denied admission, you cannot attend in the fall.
I meant to more throughly elaborate upon the appeal process I could maybe try after being waitlisted and then rejected.
Would it be proper “etiquette”? I mean, I don’t want to annoy the Admissions Office, but it is my dream school. I know I should not have set my mind on one school, but I couldn’t help it. Haha.
The vast majority of schools never allow appeals. In fact, I don’t think that there are any that are still accepting appeals. What school are you talking about?
Mount Holyoke College! :]
But students may decide not to attend and notify them in the next two months, right?
So, maybe spaces will open up in the class. If I appeal, yeah, I don’t know. I’m just hoping.
Perfectionist,
It’s time to move on to Plan B. IF the school of your dreams should experience enough “summer melt” in their incoming class to need to add students to meet their target number, they will select students from their waitlist. That is why they have a waitlist and that is what the waitlist is for.
An appeal of a rejection is useless unless you present compelling information to them that demonstrates why their previous decision was completely wrong…for example, the salutatorian of my nephew’s class , a girl with a 2320 SAT,received a rejection from the state flagship because the high school submitted the wrong transcript in error-- not using the students real names, but it was like submitting Robin A Jones instead of Robin X Jones and their were 6 students with the same last name in the class.
Out of curiousity, what new information do you plan to present as the basis of your appeal?
They have already closed the waitlist. Do you mean “summer melt” as in they will reopen the waitlist?
The school is not need blind so I will express a change in my need for financial aid.
That won’t do it for you. The school will want to know where they made an error in considering your application…and with no new information about your academic qualifications, they are not going to change their mind.
Out of curiousity, what has changed so that you no longer need financial aid? Are you able to pay full freight should you get in?
I am sure that you have been accepted to another very good school, and that you will be successful there and have an enriching experience. Concentrate on doing exceptionally well academically, and maybe you will be able to transfer to your dream school
I don’t think my school made an error on my application. Anyway, nothing as severe as sending out the wrong transcript. I think.
I did send new academic credentials. :]
As for the financial aid, there’s always bank loans if not government loans, right? (:
Yes, but from my understand, those tend to not be as well subsidized, if at all. Are the experiences thoroughly worth such finances? Maybe you could try transferring?
I think so, because I’m not really happy with where I am going.
But transferring is definitely a possibility. Thank you. (:
