Finalizing Senior Schedule

I’m a homeschooled student, and it’s time for me to submit a senior year schedule to my umbrella program. If anyone has any advice or constructive criticism about my schedule, that would be greatly appreciated. I’ve listed the primary sources and timeframe for classes, if that helps.

AP English Language and Composition

**AP Macroeconomics/b

**AP Statistics/b

**AP Studio Art: 2D Design/b

Again, I would love some constructive criticism about my schedule. I mainly focused on taking classes that would challenge me (1, 4-8, 10-11), interest me (4-11), and help prepare me for college (1, 3, 6). In retrospect, AP Macroeconomics doesn’t fit any of these characteristics, so I might take it out. My mom, however, who is the opposite of a CC mom, thinks I should keep it because AP Microeconomics was so easy for me. :)

EDIT: I’m applying to universities like Caltech and MIT, to give a sense of perspective.

Thoughts, anyone? I have to submit this ASAP.

Looks really good so long as you have enough social studies and foreign language for anywhere you might apply already done.

Agreed. Hard to tell without context. The schedule is weak in social studies and foreign language, but you may have covered this in earlier years.

@Ynotgo @skieurope: Do you think I need more than two semesters of social studies in my senior year? I’ve already got AP Macroeconomics and Economic Applications of Game Theory, but I could add a post-AP Psychology class or (God forbid) a history class.

As for credits, I currently have four credits of social studies (last year was ConLaw, AP Micro, and AP Psych, for a total of two credits) and 3+ credits of foreign language (Latin 9-11, with high school level courses in middle school). I’m rather tired of Latin and would prefer not to take an additional year, but I could potentially start a new language (e.g. French or German).

What do you think?

That sounds fine for languages. I don’t think a first year of another language counts for much as far as admissions goes. I would only start a new language if you had an interest or want to travel in places that speak that language.

If you might be considering applying to UCB or other UCs, be aware that the History/social science (“a”) requirement is “Two years, including one year of world history, cultures and historical geography and one year of U.S. history, or one-half year of U.S. history and one-half year of American government or civics.”

You should probably check the requirements at other universities to which you might apply. I’m not sure all universities would consider AP Psych as social studies. They might also differ on whether “Economic Applications of Game Theory” is classified as economics or math.

OK, then you’re absolutely fine. Nice, challenging schedule.

@Ynotgo: Thanks for your thorough response.

I have fulfilled the UC history requirement with World History (9), US History (10), and Constitutional Law (11). I assume that AP Psychology would be recognized as a social studies class (Get the Most Out of AP – AP Students | College Board), but let me know if you find any contradicting information.

I should probably review the requirements at all of my prospective colleges before submitting my schedule.

Great. Here is a list of the many options for fulfilling UC’s a-g requirements: <a href=“University of California Counselors”>University of California Counselors;
