finally found my passion

well, since summer started i’ve begun to do some mindless brainstorming, since I no longer have AP’s or SAT’s to worry about… and I came up with an idea to do a fundraiser. I began looking up causes to do it for online and I found one that particularly stood out.

I don’t want to mention which one on collegeconfidential because I’m very, very paranoid and because I know many of my classmates stalk this site 24/7. but since then, i’ve found myself researching that one topic day and night, and planning little things to raise money, and i am even contemplating starting a club at my school.

i’ve found myself creating logos on photoshop in my spare time, toying with words to make the perfect club name, and subscribing to online newsletters about the cause.

i am not an exceptional student. if this works (and i hope my fundraiser DOES work, i’ve completed all my research- now i just got to make the calls and stuff) i hope it will shine on my application. i want to stand out from those millions of other people who have 34234234 hours of community sevice, are presidents of 9283479238 clubs, have 4.0’s, are on varsity sports, are ranked #1, and balance two part time jobs

even though this started as something i only wanted to do for college, by now it has shifted into something that i am completely, genuinely and wholeheartedly interested in. college is something that i hope will happen as a side-effect rather than the goal.

i want opinions. what do you guys think?

That sounds great. But I hope that you understand that you don’t have to have a passion at age 17. I mean, the notion that you’ve “found your passion” is just absurd. As Scott White, director of Guidance at Montclair High School in New Jersey said, “It is not something you can find. It is something you either have or don’t have.” There are great kids who didn’t have one specific outstanding characteristic but are just great people to know and go to school with, who have potential.

It sounds really cool! Good luck to you.
Now I really wanna know what it is…keep us posted. =P

Honestly, good for you, but I wouldn’t knock people for having good grades, athletics, and work ethic. Looking on both sides of the fence you know.

wow, good for you
i would do something like that if i didn’t have my internship
