finance, banking, etc...are business careers actually enjoyable?

Anyone who wants to be a doctor for the money is a f***ing moron. Doctors make pennies compared to other careers so doing it for the money is pretty dumb.

Not really. Besides successful entrepreneurs, lawyers, investment bankers, etc. not many jobs out-earn doctors.

Doctors DO may quite a bit… not pennies…

There are huge opportunity costs, but most doctors do find their jobs rewarding. You just won’t be a young millionaire, that’s all. But there are some people, particularly Asians, who still think that medicine and law are the highest paying careers.

lol stoneimmaculate… you really got to be stoned if you think that.

bump (10 char)

I don’t know a lot of people who would work ANY JOB for 100 hours a week and only get paid $43k a year, so what’s your point?

His point is people do it only for the money…

haha, nodnard you are stupid. Sheed30 just backed me up, Money Moves The World.

“I don’t know a lot of people who would work ANY JOB for 100 hours a week and only get paid $43k a year, so what’s your point?”

nodnard, thats really funny, because thats the salary doctors get working 100 hours for 3-9 years after medical school. Its called residency, and they make pennies.

lol, yea, and many many people gladly do it…

Gladly? No. But they do what they gotta do.

I’m currently interning at an Investment bank boutique (non-NYC), so I could give you a couple of my views.

As far as the junior level is concerned, my position is a little biased, as my MD is pretty nice, but the work is usually heavy. Its not unusual to get ready to head out of the door for a night with your friends, and then have another superior dump a load of numbers for you to crunch. With that being said, since I’m at a boutique, I get a lot of client interaction. Basically, most of my morning, I get to speak with clients, feel important, etc. From my standpoint, I really am starting to like what I do (regardless of whether it is unpaid). There is this feeling of importance that you get when dealing with such high profile clients, and a sense of accomplishment when you close a deal that you get. However, at a big bank, I don’t think you’d feel any of that until you hit the senior level.

I’d have to venture and say at the junior level of investment banking (BB’s of course), the work sucks- the hours suck, everything sucks. You just get treated like pure ass. After that, though, the senior level is pretty glamorous. Its fun interacting and meeting tons of new people, flying from here to there, playing golf. Of course, not many of us will ever make it to the senior level, so take that into account. But, if you can grind out those tough years at the junior level, the senior level, IMO, is definetly rewarding and enjoyable, that is, if you like interacting with people, meeting new people, etc.
