2nd go 'round here. Didn’t get any $ with our first son. Our 2nd is a senior and going through the application process now. Our financial situation has not changed in the past 3 years. I’ve heard that it’s possible that we could get a little bit of aid for both kids since we will have 2 in college at the same time (for one year only). Wondering if anyone has any experience with this where you didn’t get any aid but did get some aid when you had 2 in college.
For the college the first student is attending and the colleges that the second student is likely to attend, try running the net price calculators with both the one in college and two in college scenarios.
It will be college dependent.
Better choice if it works - budget dependent - apply to schools where either the cost in full or cost with merit will make budget.
The FAFSA no longer reduces the SAI (formerly known as EFC) when multiple kids are in college. Some Profile schools have adopted this as well…and some have not.
You can look on the net price calculator, and if there is a field for number in college on it, try it with on in college, and with two in college. See if there is a difference.
You can also contact the financial aid office and ask their policy regarding multiple kids in college, and how this impacts need based aid.
I was hoping for the same when we had 2/3 in college, we did get a portion of the federal loans subsidized, which we didn’t get with just 1 in college. Next year we will be back to just 1 anyway.
