Financial Aid Advice

Hello everyone,

I was accepted to BC under the OTE Program and the acceptance letter said I would have the benefit of a “generous” fin aid package, whatever that is. However I still have not received my award letter because of missing papers and the deadline to commit to a school is may 1st I believe. I called BC and they said chances are I wont get a package before May 1st. So my question is, should I go ahead and commit to BC without seeing my financial aid package. The only problem with this is that I dont want to get stuck going to a school that will leave me in debt because my family isnt really that well off.

Any advice from anyone?
Thanks

ask BC admissions if you can get an extension on the May 1 deadline bcos you are awaiting financial aid review.

ask your second choice college if you can get an extension on the May 1 deadline for the same reason.

My daugher will be attending BC’s OTE program this summer. The FA package for OTE students is different than the others. OTE has its own grant. I can tell you from my daughters FA package that they were very generous. Yes you should accept before seeing the package, because they only take 40 to 50 students into the program. They may or may not have reached that amount of students. I was told by the program director that once they reach that amount they will not accept anymore. Hope this helps. Good luck to you.
Oh! Even if you accept and don’t like the package (and you will), you’re not losing a deposit because your deposit is waived any way.

hey bobjames, im in the same situation, so you’re not alone. i honestly thought that i wasnt going to be accepted into bc so i didnt bother with the financial aid docs. so i was really behind. but when my family found out that i got in, they wanted me to go, so i accepted bc with the OTE program without receiving my financial package. i still dont have it because they are still reviewing. but im not that worried because there are soooo many benefits from the OTE program that i couldnt say no to it.

I didn’t get into OTE so I don’t really know anything about it, but I didn’t send in my financial aid stuff until about the 15th of april, on “the last day”. They didn’t process it until a week later, but my mom called and started talking to my adviser and within a couple days we had my package. This was maybe three or four days ago, and it was VERY generous :)
