financial aid application question

I don’t need financial aid. Does that give me a better chance to get into these schools?

U Miami (FL)
Wisconsin - Madison
Michigan
Boston U
Georgia Tech
RPI
Pittsburgh
Carnegie Melon
maybe some other schools in this caliber

2000 SAT GPA 3.6 UW 4.2 W
Average ECs

I want to major in Engineering but either go into grad school in either medicine or engineering.

Hello mbstriker,

If any of these schools denied or accepted you based on your financial status they would be in a lot of trouble. You being able to pay for all expenses does not increase your chances of being accepted. I’m a Computer Engineering major and from my experience, if you have performed well in math/science courses you have a good chance of being accepted as an engineering major.

Ok its math and science that has brought me up. Unfortunately its the AP english and AP histories that bring my GPA down…

Hey mb,
Don’t fret too much about those courses. First, they are AP courses and are supposed to be difficult. Second, they are liberalartsy. Yes they are important but honestly, after your first year as an engineering major you will most likely never have to touch them again unless you take them to meet general requirements. Which school do you want to attend the most?

I honestly do not know. I mean I want to know more engineering and science schools that are in my caliber. These schools just came to mind.

I know pathetic…

Publics tend to be need-blind.

Yes, absolutely none of those schools are need blind.

RPI is not need blind, so it may be of help there. You may be interested in this blog, which began in 08 and continues to generate posts from RPI employees and alum, as it seems to dispute the statement by RPI that they are committed to increasing financial aid for students. If I were a full pay parent, I would have concerns about the way RPI uses their funds…
