Financial aid awarded to wrong school

I applied to two schools prior to the beginning of the spring 2015 semester, so I sent my FAFSA to both schools. My federal financial aid was awarded to the correct school, but my state grant was rewarded to the wrong school. During the time it took to get the situation rectified, my current school sent me a refund check for my federal aid. I will be receiving my SEN letter from the state by Friday, February 21 and I was told the deadline for my state grant at my current school is March 1st, so there shouldn’t be a problem, but now I’m unsure if I will still be receiving it since the school already cut me a check.

To provide some more information: The state grant is something that I qualify for because my GPA is high and I’m a member of an honor society. I’m sweating this money a bit because I wanted to spend it on a computer because some of my classes in upcoming semesters are only available online.

Has anyone had any experience with something like this? Does the school keep the money, send it back, or am I supposed to get another check?

Thanks in advance.

Most likely the refund check didn’t include the state grant. Generally schools aren’t going to give a refund of funds prior to receiving the money from the state. I would think that when the school gets the state money, if all billed expenses have been paid, you would get another check. But for sure I would check with the finaid office to be sure.

Thank you for your response! I’ve written the financial aid director at my current school an email.
