Financial aid based on less-popular major?

I read the financial aid sticky that talks about how NYU gives out aid on a desirability basis. I will major in Biology; since it is a less popular major, will NYU offer me more money? I would love to attend and I know I can get in, but the only issue is cost. Thanks!

No, financial aid is not given out based on your intended major. Remember, many people change their major, so it would be silly to give financial aid on that basis as then many students could lose their financial aid.

Additionally, biology and say, psychology, are both within the College of Arts Sciences. The College is the one who controls the money, not the departments. Each student competes against every other student for financial aid, regardless of their intended major.

Biology is one of the most popular majors at NYU and also financial aid is based off which students NYU wants more. For example a student with a background in science research along with a 2350 SAT and 3.95 GPA will be more appealing than the average applicant so therefore a qualified student would get the scholarships/aid. The numbers I gave are just example and not real reflections.
