Financial Aid Errors

How common are financial aid award letters with errors?

I applied at the University of Kansas and they said that I would only qualify for $9500 in federal loans. When I went back to my FAFSA to add another school, the FAFSA shows that I should qualify for $12500 since I am going for a 2nd bachelors(5th year student).

I did some research online and indeed as a student pursuing a 2nd bachelors, I should qualify for $12500/year in federal loans until I graduate.

I am ****ed because if I had not done my research, I would have been shorted $3000 in federal student loans that I should have qualified for, definitely not going to this school anymore!

How much do you already have in Stafford loans?
Are you an independent student?

I graduated without ever taking any federal loans-therefore, I should qualify for the full amount which is $12500/year until I graduate with my 2nd bachelors. Yes, I am an independent student.

Yes, mistakes happen all of the time in this crazy “financial aid process”…good for you that you are getting informed. I would simply go back to the school and see if they will correct the mistake…

It can be confusing & there are lots of special circumstances so it is not surprising that someone who may have only been in the job a short while misses something.
