Financial aid for a 13 year old

This is a question that may have a no for answer, but it does not hurt to ask…
My 13 year old daughter was accepted to attend one of Duke TIP programs this summer. I applied for financial aid but there was nothing left because we had to wait for the SAT scores to be released to apply. She really wants to go, but it is not within reach for me. Does anyone one know of any scholarship or financial aid available to 13 teenagers? Something like FAFSA that will cover the costs of attendance.
Thanks!

I think your only chance is through the Duke TIP program specifically.

Car washes :-)

lol!
Duke TIP won’t do it this year… too late. She is going to have to wash lots of cars!
Thank you though…

Yeah, my daughter wanted to do some of these summer camps. The first couple of years (she had been accepted to EPGY specifically, so, similar) we just had to pass. Not like it was college and it would ruin her life to not go. I think it is more important to do it in the older years.

Your daughter is likely to receive many special summer opportunities over the next 4-5 years. Colleges know it is a great way to interest high stat students. That said, financial aid for these programs is very limited. They are set up as money makers or at least break even for the schools. If she really wants to attend, she may need to start saving now for a few years down the road and carefully choose a program that fits her and is not too expensive. These programs are worthwhile, but not as selective, awesome or essential as the finely crafted invitations imply.

My cousin’s son initially could not go to a pricey summer program a few years ago for the same kind of reason. He stayed on the wait list and just forgot about it, and lo, and behold, some money turned up at thelast moment. Some kids pulled out and they program wanted to fill the course, so they offered him a package.

You can’t expect this to happen, but leave the option open.

Thank you cptofthehouse… I am working on some things to see if I could send my daughter. On top of everything that has been said, we currently do not live i the US, so she cannot start saving much. We have a controlled market and prices in the black market are crazy!
We still have a few months, and if not for this year, it will be next year or so… She is only 13.

You might try local organizations that would be willing to sponsor her - similar to local scholarships many kids get through their high schools. Think outside the box. If a certain class interests her, see if there is a local company that deals in that business. Maybe there is a local women’s group that is interested in seeing high-achieving girls participate in these types of programs. There are outside sources, but you have to do some legwork to find them.
