financial aid for grad school? and IR or development studies prep?

Hi, I am currently an anthropology major and will be starting my 3rd year at uni this fall. I am transferring from a CC and I have mostly art history and anthro classes, but I want to do a masters in either international relations or development studies.

I want to know what I need to do in order to be accepted into a masters like that. What courses do I need to take, or can I apply without taking classes other than my anthro ones?

Also, my family income is below 60,000 and I am not paying anything for my bachelors, since I have financial aid. There is no way I can pay grad school but I want to go to grad school directly after graduating from university. I want to apply to a private university (like columbia, or non ivy’s aswell) because i think I’ll have more chances of getting financial aid, but what is the finaid situation in gradschool? Cause I had a friend told me that she isn’t paying anything for her masters at cornell and she came from puerto rico.

How can I go to grad school after my bachelors and not pay anything??
Also, my gpa is 3.9 so I think I’ll have a very good gpa when I graduate

If you get a fellowship, a teaching assistantship or a research assistantship your tuition/fees will probably be all or mostly covered. In exchange, you are required to work a certain number of hours a week, and/or teach a class or two which can be very time consuming.

Definitely do not go to a graduate school that does not fund you. You are entering a field that is notorious for having poor job prospects. If you saddle yourself with a lot of debt you will come out of grad school worse off than if you had never gone to begin with.

Also, graduate financial aid is almost entirely merit-based - your income isn’t a consideration.
