Financial Aid for International Students

For students who come from low income families ( Less than 30000$), what can they expect in terms of financial aid from top universities like Harvard, MIT, and the Ivy League? Will they need to worry about money?

Each school has its own policy. Check their websites.

They will need to worry about being admitted first. Being international gives them an even lower chance of admission than Americans.

They need to worry more about acceptance into these highly competitive schools. 95% or so of international students do not get accepted.

IF…and I really mean that IF you get accepted, and your income is really below $30,000 a year, the schools you put on your OP would likely give you very significant need based aid. These schools DO still require a student contribution…so you would need to fulfill that obligation.

IF you get accepted, you won’t have to worry about costs (just like for lower-income Americans who manage to get in).
HOWEVER it’s about three times harder to get into these universities than it is for Americans.
In short, 95-99% internationals are turned down.

So what would you recommend as safety schools for an international student who needs financial aid. SAT new - 1450?

LACs (for ideas, check out usnwr rankings. The top 40 tend to be pretty generous, the next 20 or so could be depending on interest and stats).
Depends on how much financial aid: Beloit, Gustavus Adolphus have good financial aid but would likely expect $15,000 minimum. UAH or UTD (AES) if interested in stem or business…? U montevallo?

Safety school…that would be one in your country.

stand corrected please help to get a sense on where to apply with a 1450 from abroad
as ‘my fit’ is difficult to understand from overseas

@whitelillies

It would be better if you started your own thread…rather than highjacking this one. It gets confusing…as most of us think we are replying to the first poster…and your query seems to have taken over.

Maybe a moderator can split your post off to its own thread.

@thumper1 thank you will do that
