Financial Aid for purchase of books and supplies

I have read somewhere that as college student, California College Promise Grant might be used for the assistance for the purchase of books and supplies.
I wonder if someone has any knowledge about this or if there is any grant applicable for that?

As per their financial aid adviser:
The California College Promise Grant, it is only for the cost of the classes. Is it another grant you might be thinking of?
