Financial Aid from girls schools?

Did anyone get a significant offer of financial aid from a girls’ school?

I’m not part of this year’s prep school admissions cycle, but I figured that perhaps you’d appreciate any response over no response

I’m a senior at Emma Willard and I can attest to their generous financial aid. They have a large number of named and special scholarships that help subsidize their scholarship funding, and the administrators are always friendly and eager to help. Their cost of attendance is average for a boarding school, but I received, quite surprisingly, far more aid from EWS than from Exeter, which had a billion $ endowment and was need-blind the year I applied. It was by far the most generous offer I received. Best of luck in your boarding school process!

+1 on Post #1 above. Emma Willard is known to be among the most generous schools with regard to FA…up there with Andover and St. Andrew’s. In our experience when 7D2 applied a few years ago, they offered the most FA of any school.

And for the record, it’s not too shabby on other fronts either

@theoriginalclone: Agreed! Great school that doesn’t get the attention it deserves, IMO. Between Emma and MPS, I’d recommend Emma!

Any interest in an Emma Willard Q&A thread?

@theoriginalclone: The only issue with individual school Q&A threads, is that unless someone (parent/student, current or former) maintains it, it falls well off the first page and into oblivion. And the admins tend to frown upon resurrection of older threads. That said, there are few school-specific threads that have survived the ages…perhaps because admins know that there are active parents/students who participate.

I guess I’d encourage you to do it, but use the search tool to see if one already exists. Then commit to being an unofficial rep for the school for at least the next application cycle…meaning, through April 10th 2017. You may find you don’t have the time (being a new college student). Oh, one other word of advice…wait until about July to start a new thread/resurrect an existing one. The next few months are generally relatively dormant as people who are going to be new students next year have had most of their questions answered and the next crop doesn’t roll in until about mid-summer. At least in my observation/experience over the years.

We received very generous FA from Grier school.

Anyone familiar with some of the other girls schools, like Hockaday and Chatham Hall?

@theoriginalclone You could start an “all girls” — that way it will get more traction since more participants?

@london203 that’s a good idea but there would have to be students from other schools willing to participate, since I’m only qualified to answer questions about Emma Willard.

Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh is willing to grant significant financial aid to boarding students.
