My parent’s are divorced. I put down my dad’s info on my FAFSA application but I can also put my mom’s down if I want to. My dad makes around 250,000 and my mother makes around 30,000. I’m thinking about changing my information to my mom’s but if Indiana looks at both parent’s information then it doesn’t matter anyway. Does Indiana look at both parents?

IU uses the FAFSA. You are required to use the information of your custodial parent. If you decide to revise your FAFSA using your mother’s information you better have a good reason for doing so. I suspect a lot of questions would be raised at a revision of this magnitude, and you had better be prepared to answer them honestly and prepared to prove that your mother is, in fact, your custodial parent.

For a good thread that explains some of these things see this

While the situation is likely not identical the thread contains valuable information that is applicable to divorced parents, etc.

Well the only reason I say I can claim my mom is the custodial parent is that I have lived with her more than my dad in the past 12 months. I mostly live with my girlfriend, but I’ve been told that if you’ve lived with one parent a minute more than the other than that is your custodial parent. My dad pays for most/all my expenses though. But when I asked FAFSA they said it doesn’t matter who handles your expenses, the custodial is the one with whom you have lived with the most in the past 12 months.
