Financial Aid Outside Scholarship Help (+ Zell Miller)

Hi, I am just starting to explore the financial aid aspect of Emory, and I am wondering how they treat outside scholarships. Say, for example, I receive $7,000 in an outside scholarship and the following info is from the “net price calculator”
Student Loan 6000
Student Work 3000
(Total self help : 9000)

Estimated net price 12000
Therefore
Estimated remaining cost 3000 (split between parent and student contribution)

My question is, will the $7000 in outside scholarship money cut into the Estimated remaining cost or the student loan/work, or does Emory simply reduce the grant money they give by around $7000?

Also, Does the Zell Miller (hope) scholarship also simply reduce the Grant Emory gives?
I know each school is somewhat different, and as this question is somewhat detailed I am unable to find a clear answer online. Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks

It goes toward what is left over. However, if the amount of outside scholarship money exceeds what you need to fulfill the cost of attendance, then Emory college reduces the grant so that it is even with the cost of attendance. At least that is my experience with it. I don’t know if it changed or not.
