Financial Aid SAP Appeal. Do you think I can get approved?

This is my first appeal and I had 1.9 GPA but took summer school and got it back to above 2.0.

Dear Office of Student Financial Aid:
I am writing to appeal for my satisfactory academic progress. Since last fall, I have struggled to excel in my class because of some financial difficulties. I started working for the first time because my father`s company received a lawsuit from *****, Inc. Indeed, it is my fault for not managing my time correctly, but I do not have to work as much, if any, if I get financial aid for the upcoming year. My father’s company had to spend a lot of money to fight this case. Luckily, it looks like it is going to conclude in my father’s favor. But during that time, I had to pay for my own expenses, housing, and etc. He was losing his customers and losing his manufacturers because of this case. My sister dropped out of college and began working. I really wanted to continue my studies so I decided to work while taking 17 units because I wanted to expedite my graduation date, instead of dropping out like my sister.

What has changed since Fall 2014:
I now should have met SAP (cumulative GPA above 2.0) by the end of Summer Session 2 because I performed well during summer session. In addition, my father’s lawsuit concludes at the end of August, in favor of my father. I can now just focus on my studies. In addition, I am going to be following these steps to assure an improved academic progress.

  1. I have already met with my advisor and made a more feasible course plan for the upcoming year.
  2. Go to my professor’s office hours and ask questions that I didn’t understand during class. I learned over the summer that this helped significantly.
  3. Study with other classmates and study as group instead of independently. I learned that even minuscule tips that my classmates gave can help throughout the course.
  4. Attend the next on-campus time management workshop on 9/30/15 and 10/5/15.
  5. Attend the next on-campus procrastination workshop 10/13/15.

I believe I really did not know how to manage my time well. I have talked to my counselor back in January 2015 regarding the situation and signed a contract stating that I will return to good standings before Fall 2015. Since then, I have visited my counselor three times over the summer and discussed my class progress so that I can fulfill the contract.

Below are documents on the lawsuit and a copy of study plan.

*** Is there anything I can add or change to make my statement stronger. I am desperate, without financial aid I can’t accord to pay everything out of my pocket or take any more loans. Please help!!

Procrastination workshop? I wonder why the school puts that off until October…

They didn’t offer it during the summer. So do you think it can get approved?

You need to find out if your school will automatically reinstate your aid after you brought your GPA up to a 2.0 after your summer courses or if you need to appeal. Have you had this discussion with your school’s financial aid office yet?

yes, I have to talked to them and I still need to appeal. I thought I would get it automatically instated too but since my GPA was under 2.0 when they released the aid, I need to appeal.

How is my statement though?

I have edited my statement. Please give me some feedbacks. I would like to submit this appeal ASAP. Thank you

Dear Office of Student Financial Aid:
I am writing to appeal for my satisfactory academic progress. Since last fall, I have struggled to excel in my class because I was financially unstable. I started working for the first time because my father`s company received a lawsuit from *****, Inc. My father’s company had to spend a lot of money to fight this year-long case. Luckily, it looks like it is going to conclude in my father’s favor. He was losing his customers and manufactures which was leading to a huge income reduction. It was a huge transaction for me during that time because I had to pay for my own housing and living expenses. Indeed, it is my fault for letting work intervene with my academics, but I do not have to work as much, if any, if I get financial aid for the upcoming year. While my sister withdrew from college and began working, I really wanted to continue my studies. Consequently, I decided to work while taking 17 units to expedite my graduation date, instead of withdrawing like my sister.

I will take full responsibility and do everything I stated above to maintain eligibility going forward if given second chance. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter.
