some months ago i asked people here if theres any financial aid or scholarships available for biology related courses and they all said theres NO-NONE-NADA aid available for those courses for internationals…
SO i was checking out the Universities Supplements and stuff and i thought of applying for a molecular biology or maybe a physics Major? and i had doubts lingering about that US colleges give NO financial aid for bio-related courses to internationals? can somebody tell me if they give aid for molecular biology course or for bio-chemical engineering?! i know people have already replied to this doubt but they said its a NO aid for pre-med/med courses, so i stilll wanted to clear my doubts…? thanks…

Not quite clear on question. If what you are asking is whether there are merit scholarships or need based financial aid for internationals that come to the US for college and major in a science, the answer is it depends on college. As to need based financial aid, majority of US universities do not provide any for internatonals regardless of major but many do and a place to start some research on it is iefa.org. As to merit aid, large numbers of colleges do give some to highly qualified (high grades, high test scores) internationals who are accepted and at a number of universities the engineering/science colleges often have more to give than other colleges at the university. Usually, even if you qualify for merit aid it is not going to cover everything and often it is only a portion of the tuition.

will an international get ANY scholarship or any financial aid if he does his Molecular Biology or bio-chemical engineering from a US college(take princeton for instance?)?

Princeton is one of the colleges that provides need based financial aid to internationals which can include grants that do not have to be repaid and actually will meet full financial need of internationals: http://www.princeton.edu/admission/financialaid/whats_great/ ;getting merit based aid at Princeton is far more difficult which would also be true at other very high ranks (consider: as one of the highest ranked colleges in the nation, practically everyone who applies and goes to Princeton has very high stats so it does not need merit scholarships to get such people to apply). You should explore the financial aid pages of other schools’ sites as they usually provide relevant information.

Chapman University offers need-blind merit scholarship to anyone who qualifies, including international students. They also have an excellent pre-med program.

I think the OP is under the impression that a college’s financial aid is tied to a particular major–that is not the case.

There is always money for something. I promise you that, you just have to take the time to find it yourself

“they all said theres NO-NONE-NADA aid available for those courses for internationals.”

Need-based financial aid, and merit-based scholarships that are awarded by the individual college/university usually do not depend on a student’s major. Sometimes there are specific scholarships for a specific major at a specific college/university. In order to find out about those, you would need to check the website of each college/university that you are interested in.

You have to make your own list of colleges/universities, and then you have to look at their scholarship and financial aid information one at a time. This is the only way for you to find out what is available. In the International Student Forum, b@r!um has written that she researched three hundred (yes, 300) different places in order to come up with her final application list.

Medical School admission is a different issue. Many medical schools in the US do not admit any international students. Most medical schools in the US do not offer any kind of scholarships for any students at all. If you want to study medicine, do it in your own country, and then come to the US for advanced training later.

thanks happymomof1, thats what i wanted to know…
