Financial Aid Stanford

<p>Hello Everyone,</p>

<p>Sorry I’m a rookie in these forums, but I was just wondering regarding Financial Aid for Stanford. What is Financial Aid and if i apply for Financial Aid will it decrease my chances of getting in? And I’m an international student (Canada). </p>

<p>This is what it says on the Stanford site:</p>

<p>What is need-blind admission?
This means that, except for some international student applications, we do not consider your family’s financial circumstances when we evaluate your application for admission. You will know whether or not you have been offered admission to Stanford based on your own achievements and efforts, not on your family’s financial strength. </p>

<p>although they say that you shouldn’t have to pay more than you can afford, financial aid (which is not a loan) is often not enough for most families. Also, admission for internationals is NOT need-blind, which means that they’ll consider if you are applying for financial aid in the admissions process (ie you have better chances if you can pay).</p>

Are international students eligible for financial aid? Does Stanford offer scholarships to international students?</p>

<p>Stanford has a limited amount of financial aid for international students (students who are neither U.S. Citizens nor U.S. Permanent Residents), and the need for aid will be a major factor in your admission decision. You must indicate on the Basic Information Form of the Application for Admission whether or not you intend to apply for financial aid and also must indicate how much money you have available per year for your educational and living expenses.</p>

<p>International students applying for financial aid must submit the International Student Financial Aid Application (ISFAA) and the Certification of Finances (COF). The approximate cost for one academic year at Stanford is currently $44,700, including tuition, room and board, books and supplies, personal expenses, and mandatory health insurance, but excluding travel.</p>

<p>Stanford will meet 100% of all admitted students’ demonstrated financial need – in the case of international students, Stanford will meet 100% of your demonstrated financial need if you have indicated on your application you wish to be considered for financial aid and our financial analysis indicates that you in fact qualify for need-based aid.</p>

<p>International students who do not request consideration for financial aid at the time they apply for admission will not be eligible to apply for aid at Stanford throughout their undergraduate years. Stanford cannot be held responsible for fluctuations in exchange rates or the stability of any country’s economy or continued government or corporate support.</p>
