Financial Aid Suspension due to Military Duty

Hi All,

I recently got an email stating that my financial aid was suspended. I am suprised because I thought I did very well in my classes. Anywhoo, I had military duty (Annual Training) four times last semester. Also, during midterms I had to leave school again for military duty. I have to write a letter for an appeal. I am experiencing writers block and can’t seem to get started. By the way I have a copy of my military orders and a letter from my Platoon Seargent as valid documentation. I cannot get in touch with any of my professors from last semester, who are aware of my situation. Any suggestions?

I have to ask, did you try to reschedule your tests? Orders don’t drop at the last second.

What is the situation with your classes? Did you finish them and get a grade? Do you have incompletes? Did you withdraw from them?

I think that part of the problem is that you are now trying to do all of this after the fact. I beleive that had you presented a copy of yur orders to your professor the minute that you got them, you may have had a different outcome. The professors could have given you a different assignment, rescheduled your exams or minimally given you an incomplete, allowing you the opportunity to make up the missing work.

If you did not let them know before hand and missed the midterms, more than likely they failed you in the course, which is the reason for they suspended your financial aid.

Your best bet is to write the letter fro appleal. Clearly and consisely state what happended and attach a copy of your orders. It does not mean that the professsors will necessarily change your grades, because you had an obligation to let them know what was happening as soon as you found out, but perhaps you can get an override/professional judgement to override the suspension of your financial aid.
