My Daughter electronically sign my name to
Financial aid Pell Grants… needing to know what to do… she had my information from 2015 -2016 . Since then she was able to live when her grandparents and go to college under the Hazlewood Act … there have been tons of behavioral problems unfortunately she recently moved out secretly. I just found out that while living with her grandfather and going to school on the Hazlewood Act using his address for that, she also applied in falsely signed my name to financial aid Pell Grants using my address… any advice please
What are you talking about? Your daughter didn’t sign your name to a Pell Grant.
Did your daughter file a FAFSA? How would she have been able to sign it electronically unless you gave her your FSA ID information?
And for the record…if your daughter is under 24 years of age, and YOU were the last PARENT she resided with…YOUR information would have been required on the FAFSA for submission purposes.
The first FAFSA I filed with my D for 2015/16 school year still used a PIN to sign.
The FSA ID replaced the PIN in May 2015.
The FAFSAs since then used a FSA ID to sign. This year we also had to create new passwords for our FSA ID.
So your D would need to know your FSA ID and password to sign the FAFSA electronically for you. She would also need your income and asset information for the last few years.
If your daughter fraudulently used your SSN and information to obtain a FSA ID and then you need to decide what you want to do.
You can contact the FAFSA fraud department and they should be able to trace if there is a FSA ID with your SSN, trace that back to the application(s) of your daughter, cancel any applications made through that, and thus claw back the benefits awarded (Pell, loans, any state awards)
Is your daughter pretending to be you in order to get loans and grants in your name?
Then you really do need to get this sorted out now! If you aren’t in school, you can’t have those loans and grants.
Is she using your information to get financial aid for herself?
She is the one responsible for those student loans and for any Pell money that is incorrect. Since you are the parent she lived with most recently, your address is the one she needs to use for the FAFSA.
Has she gone missing since she moved from her grandfather’s house?
Then you and her frandfather may want to report her as missing to the police.
