Financial aid

is washu generous? if your efc is 0, should one expect loans?

is everyone here too rich to answer his question? i would like to know the answer as well.

Our family’s efc was 0 and our son got a nice scholarship from the engineering school. I don’t think it was merely a merit scholarship because it isn’t one of the scholarships listed on the website. I suspect that financial need must have factored into the decision to award him the scholarship. The scholarship is good for 4 years (5 if he continues with graduate school) as long as he makes “satsifactory progress”. I have the impression that the amount can change based upon our finances although the amount stayed the same this year despite the fact that our income increased. It will be interesting to see if the amount changes next year when we expect income to decline or the following year when we’l have 2 in college.

WashU can be quite generous with financial aid. Financial aid at WashU falls into one of three categories. For additional information here is the link http://admissions.wustl.edu/admissions/ua.nsf/2nd%20Level%20Pages_scholarship_finaid.htm?OpenPage&charset=iso-8859-1

The first is Merit - these awards are listed on their site (with the exception of Danforth Scholars - which requires nomination by your GC). Most, if not all of these require a separate application and are quite competitive. The second is a combo of merit and need based. These are named scholarships/grants that will vary depending on need. The third is entirely need based. Most awards are for 4 years and do not require maintaining a minimum GPA. The requirement is that the student is “making satisfactory progress”.

I dont think transfers from other states qualify for merit scholarships…

And you base this on?

on this: http://admissions.wustl.edu/admissions/ua.nsf/3rd%20Level%20Pages_SFS_FA_Transfer.htm?OpenPage&charset=iso-8859-1

and this:
