Financial Aid

Does anyone know if admitted students can negotiate a financial aid package?
If yes, please tell me how?

P.S. I am a US permanent resident

I’m curious as well.

It’s worth a try. I’d say that the financial aid office would be even more amiable if you have a comparable aid package from a competing school. Congrats on your acceptance!

Ditto to zeus. Hopefully another college will give you decent aid, and you can present that to Carleton and ask them to match it.

Yeah, I got a great aid package from Colby. However, I would rather attend Carleton b/c it is closer.
How exactly do I let them know about my Colby aid? Do I e-mail Carleton or call them?
Does Carleton see a competing school in Colby?

P.S. Thanks to people who answered my question

Congrats of Colby and Carleton. I am just a senior and have not gone through such a process, I would just call up the office saying something to the effect of, “I am considering between Colby and Carleton, and I am looking very closely at the financial aid packages from both colleges. At this point, I must say that I am more satisfied with the offer that Colby has given me. Is there any way for Carleton to meet Colby’s financial aid package?- it would make the decision a lot easier for me.”

I’d call them and would suspect that they would want you to fax Colby’s financial aid award.

It doesn’t necessarily have to be a “competing school” per se, all colleges are competing against each other for a fine candidate like yourself.

Thanks ttgiang15,
I will try to contact Carleton next week and see what happens…

Best of luck SS1987 =)
