financial aid

I am applyimg to harv. yale stanf mit and chicago this year.can sb tell me when the deadline for submiting fin aid packages is??
and smth else, when we give it do we actually say if we need money or we just give our parents income and they determine if we need??thanks

You should check each school’s website to find out the deadlines for financial aid. You will also find the information about what forms you will need to submit.

You have to provide details of your parent’s income and assets, and your own income and assets (if any). Financial aid is based on what the school considers your need to be (based on income/assets etc), not on what you think your need is.

You need to check EACH college’s website for deadlines. They are not the same for each school. AND you need to find out WHAT you need to submit. That varies from school to school as well. I believe for the schools you have listed, you will need to submit both the FAFSA and the CSS Profile. You will complete those forms (and a school form if there is one) and submit them to the schools ON TIME…DO NOT MISS THE DEADLINES. The school’s will compute what your family’s contribution should be based on the information and they will then determine your financial aid award. Typically these awards are not received until you receive an acceptance to the school(s).

And just an FYI…the finaid application forms ask for much more than just your income. In addition to income, they all ask for any savings, interest income and investment income…and the Profile asks about your home equity (which is used in varying ways by the schools). Ownership of properties other than your primary home are also counted.
