My son’s stats are as follows:
GPA 3.55
weighted GPA 5.6
SAT 2130
IB student
AP national scholar (9 APs mostly 5s)
Tennis player
Pianist since 6 years old

My son just turned 17, goes to a Florida public school, and wants to double major in Political Science and Economics. He would love to have a minor in music or piano.
Our household income is around the 75Ks, we don’t have savings.
My questions: where would his best chances be to get the best possible scholarchips, merit and financial aids?
Thank you!!!

Bright Futures…is he eligible for that?

He is, however, I understand this program only gives $75-$100 per credit… it’s no longer a percentage now… Is this his best bet? Or do you think that colleges will look at him as scholarship material?

Every school is required to have a net price calculator(NPC) on their website. Choose some schools that he may be interest in and run the NPC for each and see what they say. If either parent is self-employed, owns a business or if there are rental properties the NPC will be very much less accurate at schools that require financial aid forms beyond the fafsa.

A 3.55 UW GPA and a 5.6 weighted seems to come from an unusual grading system. How much can you afford to contribute each year? There are some schools that with those stats would give full tuition but can you cover R&B and other expenses? There are two stickied threads at the top of this forum concerning guaranteed full tuition and competitive full tuition schools.

Thank you! I will check those out!
