finding a club or activity right for you

so i’m gonna be commutin to fordham. that means if i want to meet people i have to stay on campus as much as i can by joining activities. i used to have a great interest in baseball but that led to a lot of injuries which let to physical therapy. i don’t want to go thru that again. i can barely even throw a ball anymore (damn the bicep tedonitis).

i’m going to the gym to work out. but you don’t really meet people there. you kind of just do your thing and that’s it.

i was thinking of taking up swimming but i don’t think swimming is really that kind of activity where there is a lot of people. i might still take it up just because something about it fascinates me. (by any chance does anyone know any good dvds or videos that show how to become a good/faster swimmer?)

so what activity can I join? any ideas?

most colleges and universities like fordham have activity fairs in the beginning of the year. all students are encouraged to attend, no matter if they are residential or commuters. that would be the best way to find activities to participate in. remember also that you are in NYC, and that you can find any number of things to do and any number of people to do them with.

i’ve lived in nyc my whole life, and somehow i feel like it’s been a waste actually. i know a lot of places, but have never been to them.

They’ll definitely have an activity fair and lots of promotions and whatnot going on by all the different groups to try to get new members, so you can check them all out and then attend a few meetings and see which ones you like. It seems like you like sports…my school has a whole bunch of casual intramural groups for various sports (volleyball is real popular for some odd reason). You get people of all skill levels without the huge time commitment of playing an actual sport. Maybe you could find something like that?
