A few months ago i had something very important stolen from me. I was completely torn and spent a lot of time crying and hurt by this. I recently received a text message from someone claiming they have it but they refuse to give me a name or any other information. I tried to call them but they just pick up and hang up. I am not sure if they are joking or if they are serious. I just want my stuff back. If anyone could help me in finding at least a name i would greatly appreciate it. I have the number.

If it is a cellphone # that may be hard to trace. If it is a landline, just go to [White Pages Phone Directory with Free People Search](http://www.whitepages.com) and select the “reverse lookup” uption at the top. YOu put int he phone # and it gives you the person’s name (and city, I believe).
Let us know if it works.

i just called att and it is indeed a cell number. they wouldnt give me the name on the account though

If it’s not a cell phone you can look it up on Anywho dot com. They have a reverse phone look-up - you put in the phone # and it tells you who it is.
There are also reverse phone books for cell phones, but the only ones I have found are not free.
Just Google reverse phone.

Did you report the theft to the police? Seems to me they would be the ones you’d want to contact, since you now have a phone number of someone who claims to have your stolen property.

no i actually didnt file a police report but i did file something within my school. if there is a text message on my phone with the person saying they stole it and have it can i still contact the police and file a report? will something actually get done?

^^ Give the police a call. It’s hard to say whether they’ll do anything about it or not but it’s guaranteed they won’t if you don’t contact them.

Given the way this person is now behaving, claiming to have your stuff but not giving other information, I would definitely call the police.

I don’t like the sound of that.

It could be someone just baiting you, but I’d call the police and see if they can’t get to the bottom of it.

Call the police. Do not try to deal with this person on your own.

^This is good advice. Call the police and report what you know.
