Finding a sublet in NYC.....NOW???

Does anyone have any suggestions for finding an immediate sublet in NYC, reasonable commute from Columbus circle area?

What is your budget? How long do you need a sublet for? Columbus Circle is on the UWS and subways in the area are good.

Need it until the end of July, I am not sure what places go for specifically but I am hoping less than 2k/month, and 1/2 of that for the second half of June?

You should look on Craigslist for sublets. You should be able to find a room in an apartment on the upper west side for $1.8K to $2K per month, but this will be in a shared apartment most likely.

Thanks showmom858, she is looking at a place tonight, so hopefully it will work out.

How did it go? D’s friend has a place available through the end of July. UES.

I will find out soonish. Can you pm me more info?

I would recommend checking out the “Gypsy Housing” page on facebook. It’s technically supposed to be used only by people in the NYC arts community, but tons of people use it to post and find sublets or leases

Thanks jazzcatastrophe, I didn’t realize that there were people who rent their places a night at a time like that. Interesting concept. It looks like some people will be out of town for a week or a few days and will just throw their apt. out there for that short period.

It may be too late for that, but you could try Columbia international students dorms (there are some of those free for the summer, and you don’t even have to be a college student) - my friend sublet there a couple of years in a row.

So the place she looked at is not available until the beginning of July, so she still needs to find a place. Any leads appreciated :-)

Call the colleges. Some of them, NYU included allow college students to live in the dorms during the summer under certain conditions.

They may already be booked but I know a student who stayed here a few years ago…safe neighborhood and reasonably priced. http://www.92y.org/Uptown/92YResidence-Student-Intern-Housing.aspx

Just noticed that they are full until the end of July…sorry. Bookmark it for the future. :-)

That’s true but they stopped accepting applications from non-NYU affiliated students over a month ago.

Craigslist. Sublets move incredibly fast in NY

parent… sorry it is gone.

Thanks anyway woody, it looks like she has something for the next two weeks, but is still trying to lock up July.

Try airbnb, and the listingsproject.com. The latter you have to sign up to receive a listing. It was created originally for artists looking for short term rentals. My daughter just did an internship in NY and someone recommended it.

thanks partyof5 I passed on the info.
