finding out where the exams are

How can I find out where the APUSH and Statistics exams are given?? I called the AP board, but they said not to call until March of next year to determine where it would be given in May. But how will I know if those places will accept homeschoolers??? That seems really late. Do I have any other choice than to call around to all of the schools in the East Texas area in September?? I’m not sure how those phone calls would go either. I guess I’m surprised there isn’t a list somewhere.

Are you planning on taking them this year? If so, I’m afraid it’s a bit too late to register right now…

No, I’m planning for my son to take them May of 2011. I know that Statistics isn’t all that common, so I really need to know where to contact the staff to arrange this. I called a month ago and they told me that they couldn’t give out that information yet and to call back in March when they had an official list. That seems REALLY late to me. I wanted to contact the staff in September to arrange for the testing.

I’d recommend calling the local high schools in your area. Try both the public and the private schools. Sometimes the private schools are more helpful than the public schools.

The College Board won’t finalize that list until March of 2011, most likely because they won’t have finished registering all the Audits until approximately that time (the deadline for audits for the 2010-2011 school year should be January 31, 2011). They’d only give you names off that official listing.

Rather than calling the individual schools, a lot of schools will also list information about their AP offerings on their websites. That should help narrow down the search some, as many schools will know what they’re offering much sooner.

That is a good idea about the websites. I live in a very small Texas town and was wondering if I might have to drive hours to one that has a statistics exam. Our local high school offers the history one, but not statistics. That is the one I can’t find.

My daughter took the AP Eng Lit at a local Christian High School a few years ago, the arrangements were made by a co-op teacher. This year she is taking AP Bio and AP Psych at the local Public School. They offer AP Bio to their own students so we will need to pay an additional admin fee for the other exam. She is also submitting an AP Art Portfolio through the AP Art Teacher at the Christian High School my husband attended. Contact your local high school, any area Christian School and any other school where you may have connections. We have found some schools very helpful, others not as much. A larger public school in our area will administer any AP test you request as long as you pay the additional fee ($15 I think). HTH
