For a long time, my mom has told me that I have a lot of Native American Indian in me. At this point, I’d like to know what I am and about my ancestors. Is ancestry.com really the best method to do that? Anyone else used a different way, or did that website work?

That website never really helped me - I would always talk to grandparents/great aunts/uncles about where our family came from, and being EXTREMELY proud Irish, I always got more than an ear full. One of my relatives also wrote a book about our family so I guess i’m kind of at an unfair advantage.

Brand, it can be very difficult to trace Native American lineage. Supposedly my great-grandmother, or something is native American. I would try to access newspaper archives, etc. and ask around your family. Ancestry.com can be useful if someone related to you has taken the time to add some lineage, such as my Uncle did with our dutch and scotish anscesters.

thanks…did you use any specific method…i always see on tv how ppl access old birth records, but where do you find those? I’m really interested if anybody has been successful.

Hope this might help a bit.
