Finding the right school for me

So as many feel, the college search is stressful and can be confusing. For me, I have yet to fall in love with a school. I’m thinking of many majors such as theater design and technology, communications, or possibly business as i have considered wanting to start my own business. All though i want to start my own business, I also love light design and production and am interested in hopefully getting hired by a concert production company. I also like being near the city since i grew up right outside of the city but also want a community feel and enjoy having access to the outdoors and hiking. I fear though that being in a suburban or rural college environment will become boring. Any idea what college will give me the best of both worlds in terms of environment and major availability? or any words of wisdom?

We can throw darts blindly or you can give us some more info. GPA? Scores? Home State? How much your family can afford?

And what does the FAFSA/net price calculators say you can afford?

3.4 gpa and a 1050 on the new SAT 40,000$ is my max tuition I live in Massachusetts

Look at SUNY New Paltz and SUNY Purchase.

You could start with Outside magazine’s list of the 10 best cities for active outdoor types. Then look at schools in those cities that have solid programs in all of the majors you are considering.

Are your parents saying that THEY will spend $40k per year on college?

Are you going to retest?

yes i am planning on retesting and between my parents my self and fafsa weve agreed on 40k as a max per year

You would like Denver (a big city in close proximity to the mountains), but the schools that would match your stats (University of Colorado - Denver, Metro State) are mostly commuter schools. I think they have one dorm.

Ok…but to be clear…you won’t be getting any free money by submitting FAFSA.

Do you understand that? FAFSA doesn’t give you money. It’s an application for fed aid, and your family’s income is too high for any grants from the fed gov’t.

Your family’s financial situation is too strong. You can take out a small loan (5500) by filling out FAFSA.
