I’m at headed into my sophomore year, during which I will be studying abroad and I find myself unhappy with my home institution so I have decided to transfer the fall of my junior year. I have earned a 3.8 GPA and I am heavily involved in extracurricular activities. I am the president of my dorm, member of numerous clubs and have conducted my own research project. As a member of a living and learning community I recieved the freshman of the year award and I was the only bachelor student in a school of 35,000 to be chosen to give a TEDx which I gave the spring of my freshman year. Do you have any suggestions on the types of school that may accept me? I am a political science and economics double major with a history minor. Any suggestions would be great! (I apologize for any typos I am having some trouble with my keyboard)
What were your high school grades and ACT/SAT scores?
What can your family afford to pay?
I went to college prep high school and had several personal struggles my freshman and sophomore year. However my grades steadily increased and I finished with a low 3.1. As for the SAT I will be retaking it in August. I understand that my past performance in high school may bar me from some schools but it is my hope that the effort I am now putting forward and have for the past year and a half will land me into a better program. (Again I apologize for typos still struggling with my keyboard)
Also I have and am still applying to outside scholarships so I think I should be fine financially.
Your majors can be found just about anywhere, so that isn’t a problem for you. The barrier for admission will be your grades and test scores. The barrier for attending will be the money. Sit down with your parents or whoever else it is who is helping you pay for your education, and get a figure from them.
While you are abroad next year, stay in touch with your professors from this year. You will need some of them for your LORs. They also can help you consider all of your options at that U so that you can develop your back-up plan. If the transfer applications don’t pan out, or if you find that the only affordable place is your current U, you need to have a plan for dealing with the rest of your time there.
You have extremely good stats for a rising sophomore. I feel like you could get into most schools with your major. As stated by previous responders, I feel that money will be the biggest issue.
