fine hair

Best shampoo and after-shampoo product for fine hair?

My fine hair is color-treated (highlights) and I used Matrix Biologe Shampoo and Conditioner for Color Treated hair. I don’t use any after product, as I don’t need anything to weigh it down.

I have been happy with products that are “sulfate free”. But I have found that one combination of shampoo/conditioner makes my hair seem thicker-when used as if they are in one bottle-that is, shampoo and conditioner at the same time, thy beat even the specialty products. It’s the Suave “Anti-Breakage” line. Why this cheap product works so well I can’t say, but it’s like I’ve added a hairpiece when I use them together like that. It happened by mistake but I’m sticking with it. I also add a dollop of Herbal Essences “totally Twisted Curl Boosting Mousse” after showering and let my hair air dry. Then I fluff it.

My new favorite Fekkai brilliant glossing and conditioner- nice shines, or Fekkai full blown volume and conditioner - nice volume look. They are $20 each at Target. No after product works , too heavy and sticky I have tried gels, mouse, etc.

A person with straight, fine hair knows that those with thick, curly hair are naturally blessed! I have spent a lot of money unneccesarily on those “sulfate free” shampoos that did nothing for my hair. Sadly, they all went straight into trash. Do not assume that if the label says “sulfate free” it will work for you. I’m very happy with my SLS containing Kerastase shampoo (especially now since I got it from Costco! ). My hairstylist always comments how healthy my hair looks and that it does not need anything else. And you would think she’d want to sell me more stuff! ;)

I also like Fekkai products, don’t use the shampoo though, I use bar shampoo.
I use the Fekkai glossing creme, but for fine hair you only need the TINIEST bit.
No conditioner, but once a week or so I use jojoba oil overnight.
I have fine but wavy hair.

I always used cheap shampoos and my hair looked good, but now that it’s thinning I have tried better shampoos. I just tried Bumble and Bumble thickening and I really like it, fwiw. My hair is shoulder length and was always thick, but is thinning on top and I noticeably “shed.” I do highlight, but I rarely blow dry.

I use Wen.

I use CHI Infra Shampoo and Aveda Rosemary Mint conditioner on my just above the shoulder fine hair - though I use the conditioner sparingly. I find if I use any other mix that my hair hangs flat and lifeless. I am blessed with many things, but thick hair ain’t one of them!

Ack, I would trade you! My thick, curly hair drives me nuts.

Color treating your hair swells the shaft, and henna coats it, either will make your hair appear thicker and possibly more managable.
I keep my hair on the shorter side, so the weight doesn’t flatten it out.
( I don’t like to have to style my hair beyond brushing it or combing it with my fingers)

People with fine hair may want to stay away from products that use glycerine or silicones.

MaineLonghorn, can I have your thick, curly hair please! My long, fine hair is thinning out terribly in recent years as I age. My daughter came home for Thanksgiving break, she said: “mom, your hair looks thinner now on the top!”, I already knew!!!

Does anyone know of a miracle product that can help me get a full head of thick hair?!

Yes, Hopeful, it’s called a wig, lol. My mother’s hair was very thin on top at my age and now mine is headed the same way, And it was fine to begin with! My D is always playing with hairstyles, hair pieces, clip-ins, half-wigs and add-ons. We were just at the hair store this afternoon and I pointed out about 6 wigs that would solve my problem. Maybe I should ask for some for Christmas!

I had fine hair, but lots of it, until maybe my mid forties, but now it’s pretty thin. I have used Purology Pure Volume shampoo, conditioner, and thickening spray for years. I recently tried Wen, and I liked it for the summer but it may not be good for me in the winter. I have some Aveda thickening shampoo and conditioner samples, but I haven’t tried them. I tried Nioxin but hate the smell. Thanks for the Bumble and Bumble suggestion, Pizzagirl. I have tried a product from that line and liked it. Maybe I will try the shampoo

Pert Plus conditioner- the dandruff kind now.

Blow dry my short fine, straight hair. Fortunately I had a zillion hairs so when hormones zeroed out (surgical menopause) and my hair thinned it was to average density. I still recall having trouble keeping my long hair confined with various efforts back in my college days. My sister had coarse wavy hair- frizz never a problem for me and all those HS years of sleeping on rollers, sigh, were often a waste!

I use wen. Lavender or pomegranate. Also, I take biotin to strengthen my hair. It seems to be working.

Lol, sseamom. ML, I’d love to trade. My hair is thin, but at least Morher Nature had pity on me and protected me from getting first gray hair until I turned 45. :)

I have thin hair and have it colored. By the end of 6 weeks, the color would be faded and my hair would be frizzy. After my last color, I tried my daughter’s sulfate free shampoo and conditioner (Nourish Spa Shampoo and conditioner) on a whim and I noticed the difference in the texture of my hair right away. I switched from Biolage and now its the end of 6 weeks after my last color treatment and the color has faded but not so much and my hair isn’t so frizzy and dry. At $5 a bottle, its worth a try.

I can’t see well enough to tell if I have any grey, but it did fade quite a bit.
I did find a grey hair downstairs today, which was a shock! (& why is it still red, while the hair on my head is much paler?)
I would like to wear it longer because I don’t like my neck so much, but when I do, it looks flat & thin on top.
Some women get extensions, but that is a lot of sitting, and if I was inclined to spend a lot of money and time on improving my looks, Id rather spend it on a relaxing vacation!
