I thought H was your husband at first. I was like, “Woah! Good for your husband!” Now I am a little disappointed.
I wasn’t meaning to say that ladies who wear polish are “girlie girls”, I meant that you wouldn’t want anyone to have that impression if you were interviewing for certain jobs. Bright polish with long nails could give that impression, just like you may not want to wear heavy makeup.
I’ll hang out with doschicos and her “peasant hands”. Tell the truth, unless someone has very long, loud nails, I don’t even notice their hands.
@thumper1 and @Overtheedge
Ho ho, Dutch Tulip for me, too. And 'A Oui Bit of Cherry, ’ which is very close, just a teeny brighter.
Going back to acrylics was my post ‘paying for tuition’ indulgence. Shoulda thought of it for that thread.
OPI used to make an awesome color…Tropical Punch. It was like Dutch tulips…but a tad lighter…and was terrific for the summer. But I haven’t seen it in a few years! Too bad!!
I think I’ve been missing out, all these years. These colors sound lovely.
I’ve never had a manicure; I can manage it fine. Am thinking about going for a pedicure; my feet are horribly rough and dry, and they could use a little love.
Busdriver, any women in your position wear colors? Or is there some hesitation?
@CountingDown , I was the same…why waste time and $. Then I had a really good pedicure and decided I would rather do that every so often instead of dinner out … not everyone would agree.
I am a girly girl – or whatever one calls a sixty year old girly girl. One reason I enjoy the nail salon is hanging out with other girly girls. Of all ages.
Can’t think of seeing anyone wearing any colors. However, unless the colors were really bright, I wouldn’t notice. I’ll have to start looking, out of curiosity now. Women also wear either no makeup or minimal amounts, for the most part.
@Gourmetmom Essie gel is very easy to remove, I just use regular polish remover and a cotton pad, but soak a little longer - no acetone, no scraping, and it does not damage my nails at all. I tried regular gel with UV only once in my life - never again! I do manicure every 2-3 weeks when I have enough time. Only $10, and they do a great job
My older and younger sis love mani and pedicures. I’ve only had it for weddings–when I’m in them and the entire bridal party gets them. Even so, I have a hard time not chipped my or ruining the polish, even the day it’s out on. I had a manicure the day before my wedding and ended up taking it off because I chipped it driving home!
Personally, I’m a no makeup, no nail polish and no perfume gal. Scents bother me greatly.
I’m glad the OP found a color she liked that others like as well and wish her the best with her job search and interview. Job hunting is definitely a process and FIT is so important!
@Classof2015 I agree 100% with everything you said.
I have great nails. Thick and very hard, so no gel for me as I don’t want to ruin them. I stopped get regular mani/pedi when college tuition reared its ugly head. But even now I only get mani/pedi for special occasions or going on vacation, as I’ve gotten really good at doing my own. The key, imo, is buffing your nails before applying any polish. I also use OPI Drip Dry. Two drops on your nails and they are completely dry within a few minutes.
Pedi done at salon lasts for months and I rarely have to do them at home. I also use O’keefs for dry feet every night, then put on special socks to keep my feet from drying out and cracking.
I don’t know the breakdown of costs for mani/pedi, but I give my manicurist $75 including tip.
75 is waaay more than I pay. An acrylic fill is 18, I think the combo is 35. This is not at a haute or resort experience. Nor a discount place. Just my neighborhood fav. And they nearly always have time for me.
Acrylics and gels last longer. But you commit to going in every fee weeks.
My manicurist is at my hair salon, not a nail place. Maybe that’s why it’s more than you pay.
I had a custom orthotics fitting many years ago. The jacuzzi-type soak and skin sanding were heavenly.
I do a lot of sewing and handwork. Chipped polish is a constant thing for me. The Essie gel coat (DIY, no UV) is the best protection I’ve found.
My recommendation is that you do not apply fingernail polish during a job interview.
I just paid $50 for gel manicure and regular pedicure. Before tip.
$62 here for gel manicure and pedicure…before tip.
