Finish my A.S.?

I’m currently at a community college with intentions to transfer to a four-year college. I’ll be here for a year and a half total, with a possibility of summer semester. I should have time to finish an A.S. in Biotechnology, which would mean I could work in a lab while I finish my four-year degree/grad school. I’m currently a liberal studies major with a concentration in biology, but I could switch easily.

Should I bother finishing a technical degree, or should I just take more gen eds for when I transfer?

Finish your technical degree atleast you’d have a job incase you get rejected by schools.

Is your choice between an A.S. in Biotechnology and an A.A. in General Studies?

What is your likely major when you do transfer?

If you expect to major in a science, then finish up the A.S. degree. Chances are that more of your electives will be useful toward that major. If you expect to major in a liberal art subject, then you should focus your electives toward that probable major which means that you are likely to have enough credits for an A.A. in a particular major.

Biotech is a growing field. If you can get coursework now that will give you the skills necessary to find an entry-level or part-time lab job that will help you pay for the rest of your education, I see completing an A.S. in Biotechnology as a win-win for you.

I plan on getting my bachelor’s degree in Biology. My only concern is that I may finish the degree requirements the summer before I transfer to my 4-year school and wouldn’t have time to technically graduate. Does anybody know anything about this?

If you complete the degree requirements your CC will be able to formally award your degree at the next scheduled graduation ceremony. There may be one at the end of the summer term. Ask your advisor how it is handled there.
