<p>Anyone out there superstitious? Are Friday the 13ths good days for you or bad? They’ve been pretty good for me, starting in elementary school when I got moved up a whole row to first chair (clarinet) in band on a Fri the 13th. I met my DH on a Fri the 13th, he met my parents on a Fri the 13th (is that a good thing or a bad? This Sunday is our 23rd wedding anniversary-- yes we got married 2 days after a Friday the 13th. The only sad overshadowing thing is that tomorrow would have been my fa-in-law’s 99th birthday. We lost him 2 weeks ago. </p>
<p>So, cyberbuds, are Fri the 13ths good for you or bad? Stories, please.</p>
<p>I am not superstitious. I just wanted to say that if my H met me, or married me on Friday 13th, he would have had a field day with the jokes flowing throughout our marriage!</p>
<p>I don’t consider myself superstitious, but ever since I had a car engine blow-up on Friday the 13th (anyone remember '72 Vagas?) I’m a bit nervous on long road trips with junker cars on that date. This year I’m safe - my car’s in the shop getting a new fuel pump and won’t be ready until the 14th. Some swedish guy making a new one out of gold at the moment.</p>
<p>No stories to tell but my Dad was born on a Friday the 13th - he was a good guy and lived a long and productive life - I miss him. One plus for the day.</p>
<p>My D took the MCAT today so hopefully Friday the 13th will turn out to be a good day for her. She did not walk out of the test feeling all that great about it but is currently so burnt out that I am hoping some of her funk is from the emotional exhaustion that sometimes comes after a test like this. I don’t know of many students who walked out of the MCAT feeling that they had rocked the house.</p>

<p>Youngest was born on the 13th, though it wasn’t a Friday. He loves it when his birthday falls on Friday and considers any Friday the 13th “his” day. He will wear number 13 any chance he gets.</p>
<p>We have good friends who married on Friday the 13th, intentionally. Bride was a total sport as groom was the driving force on that one.</p>
<p>It’s all in outlook, I think. For me personally, the real Memorial Day is unlucky as I’ve managed to injure myself rather severely on that day a few times. Now I am VERY cautious on May 31 (the “hex” started before it was a Monday holiday thing).</p>
<p>Today is a great Friday the 13th for me. S left on an overseas trip on 7/4 and we had not heard a word from him since. I was getting really uneasy and today I opened my email to find a message from him saying everything was going well and he’s having a good time. I’m so happy and relieved.

<p>This same S was due to be born on Feb 8, that day passed with no baby as did the next four. I was desperate to have the baby but determined that he not come on Fri. the 13th. I went into labor at 5 a.m. on Feb 14th and had my Valentine baby that night.</p>
<p>I’m another mom who was worried that D would have a Friday the 13th b-day. She was a May baby, and bless her heart, was a week overdue, and took about 24 hours to decide to greet the world after I started labor. (and now, at 16, I still have to wait for her to get ready). Every few years, we share her birthday and Mother’s Day, but no Friday the 13th birthday for her.</p>
<p>Back to the topic, I have liked all the fun “number” dates in the past 6 years…01-01-01, 01-02-03, etc., and although we didn’t plan it intentionally for the cool date, we were married 082882. Husband now tells everyone that I wanted to make sure he remembered the date. Almost, 25 years later, it has worked!</p>
<p>I am told that next year will be a very luck one for Chinese: 08-08-08. The word for 8 sounds like the word for “prosper” (didn’t sound like that to me at all, though). 04-04-04, however, was supposed to be bad, as 4 sounds like “die” or “death.” Nothing untoward seems to have happened on that day, though, to my recollection.</p>
<p>Knock wood, cross my fingers; I’m not superstitious, am I, moi?</p>
<p>For a completely non-superstitious person, fate seems to do pretty weird things from time to time. I tend to explain things like that in practical terms, ie for example, sometimes but not always, with someone that always has good or bad luck - it may have to do with certain personality or learned emotional traits. When things like that do happen, I just think of all the days, weeks and years that they have NOT happened! </p>
<p>I will admit that Fri. 13th was a little strange - and no I don’t believe in it! Had two near misses 1) was almost broadsided by a guy that came within inches after he ran a light -luckily, I always look even when the light is in my favor, but he really came out of nowhere 2) just after that an oblivious older guy rammed a grocery cart right into my ankle, scraping me up and hitting hard enough I was lucky not to break anything --and I have to admit that I was (not too seriously) waiting for the "third thing! " Does a broken nail count? :D</p>
