Hey, I was admitted to the University of Arizona B.F.A Musical Theatre Program but as a “First Alternate” the tone of the letter makes it seem like I’ve been admitted but it also seems like there’s a chance I’m not…could anyone clarify please?

thanks.

I think that’s a question best posed to U of Az. A lot of times you can be admitted to the school without being admitted into the program. It’s sounds like that might be the case here, although as a “First Alternate” you would be pretty likely to get in…they would just be waiting until one of the people offered a slot declined it to accept at another school

Congratulations and good luck

Hey rising-
I am actually the second alternate for U of A and I had the same questions. Luckily, I live in Tucson so I talked to someone at U of A and she told me that it’s worded that way because it almost essentially is an acceptance because they are pretty sure that the first few on the waitlist will be accepted. Anyway, congrats on making first.

thanks! That’s good to hear.

Hi! I have also been accepted as a First-Alternate into the Musical Theatre program at U of A, and I was also confused about what that meant. How many first-alternates are there? Is there one girl and one guy? And I as wondering if you guys have applied for housing or if you are waiting until you are accepted for sure? Thanks!

I’m not sure at this point what I want to do, and the only way I will know is if I go down and visit the campus. The letter sounded pretty assuring in some ways but not in others. I need to call the fine arts section anyway to figure out tours and stuff so I’m going to ask to clarify.

So what did you find out? Did they give you a definite yet?

Yeah! I’ll be going there in the fall!

Yeah it turns out they do let the first few on the waiting list almost automatically but of course cannot commit to more students than they can take or else run the risk of being too crowded.

Well, congratulations! You must say hello to Brent, Marsha, Dick, Dianne and Harold from me.

I did my undergrad work in the program, and I know you are in for the education of a lifetime! Enjoy!!!

Hey, I’m in the exact same situation this year. I was wondering how long it took for you to know that you were actually going?
