Hi, i just bought the blue book (2nd edition) online, but Amazon says i’ll get it around the 10th of august! Fuuuuu—
Anyway, I need to practice and I only got “Kaplan’s 12 practice tests” at home. So I thought that maybe I should buy the blue book 1st edition (released in 2004), but I wonder if it’s not too old for the test as it is nowadays. What do you think?

Seven of the eight tests in the first edition appear in the second edition. If you’re in a rush, the 1st edition will be fine. The second is worth getting because it includes three real SATs not in the first edition.

It’s absolutely fine… In fact the 1st edition looks bigger and fatter than the 2nd.

Weird, huh?

from what i heard the 1st doesnt have the writing portion, i may be wrong so I would double check that if i were you…also, the 3 new tests are actually real administered SATs, the other 7 seven were in the 1st edition that was published before the first new SAT in March 05. Its really up to you…

If time is of the essence, the Blue Book 1st. Edition is definitely an adequate substitute for the 2nd Edition. As Fignewton has already mentioned, seven of the eight tests that appear in the 2nd edition appear in the first edition. Now, I have not seen or used the Kaplan book, but past experience with Kaplan material tells me that it would be in your best interests to avoid the book altogether. Stick to material that is published by CollegeBoard and accept no substitutes!

@hannahj65: I think you may be referring to the “10 real SATs” about the lacking writing portion, which was published before the SAT was changed into 2400 format.

Kaplan is far too easy. the 1st Blue Book has most of the tests of the 2nd Blue Book anyway, so you should be fine if you use it. But August 10 is only fifteen days away. If you’re going for the May exam, then you have plenty of time to review, and the extra tests in the second book might come in handy, so you probably should wait. But if you’re going for a earlier administration –> yeah, first book’s fine.
