First choice too expensive?

How many of you guys got into your first-choice college, but (tragically) will not be attending due to financial reasons?

I want to major in studio art (painting, in particular). I was accepted to the art program at VCU. VCUarts is ranked by the US News and World Report as the #1 public art and design school in the country (#4 overall, behind only Yale, RISD, and Art Institute of Chicago).

What’s even better is that I was one of the select out-of-state applicants to make the cut. But, being from out-of-state, VCU would be by far my most expensive option. I have not yet enrolled at a school, so VCU technically remains on the table. I could still attend, but would most likely assume a sizeable amount of debt. Consequently, VCU has certainly moved to the back of my list.

Is anyone else in a similar situation with their first-choice school? I don’t want to feel alone in this misfortune.

Ask me again after April 1. Even though I applied for a few colleges on the east coast, I just want to see if I could get in since I worked hard during the HS years. Unless my parents win the lotto, I will probably attend one of the UCs. The question now is which one. I applied for UCB,UCLA, UCSD and UCD.
