First Come First Serve, Or Working It Out?

It was FCFS at my son’s dorm & he/we arrived 1st. Roommate didn’t arrive for many hours, by which time everything had been moved in & cleaned on son’s side of the room. The only thing that was different between the sides of the dorm room is one side has the fridge & microwave so you have to adjust the dresser & bed to be able to open the drawers on the desk. If you arrange things well, you can open the desk drawers about 60%.
In compensation, the closet on that side of the room is slightly larger. The light switch for the room is also above the dresser on that side of the room.

Boys generally don’t seem as picky & hopefully they will just work everything out. In any case, they seemed to be getting along as far as we could tell from the limited time we saw the two of them together.

I know that in one girl’s room (in the same dorm), the girl who moved in 1st moved the fridge into the middle of the room so it wouldn’t block the roommate’s desk drawers. They had a discussion about it & placement & ultimately decided to put it back on roomies side of the room since it was more efficient. They tweaked fridge placement so the desk drawers opened about 60% or more.

In other living spaces on campus, it seems that FCFS is the general rule as well, as far as I’ve heard.
