First holiday season after the loss of a loved one

Just read an interesting story in O magazine about churches that have ‘Longest Night’ services. Specifically for people grieving or in low spirits during the holiday season. It sounded like a comforting ritual.

Well, I just got back from my sister’s house. As everyone was seated, she stood up and toasted each one of us around the table, thanking us for what we had done for her family during her husband’s illness from computer help to meal drops to walking the dog to trips with them to the MD - she remembered everything. So when she was done we all toasted her and her sons and then had a huge group hug. Dinner was cold - but it was worth it. I’m so proud of her.

Woody, your sister is amazing. The word ‘hero’ popped into my mind. Don’t know if that is the appropriate word, but she sounds like a strong, wonderful woman.

I’m sure it was a great moment of peace for her, but I can’t imagine how she got through her ‘toasts’ without crying.
