first semester done...time to transfer

Alright so I just finished my first semester at a well-ranked regional state school, but I really dislike it here and am thinking of transferring.

I have a 4.0 for my first college semester (just found out today) and am looking to transfer into a School of Arts and Sciences at another school.

In high school I had a 4.0 gpa and a 2030 SAT (1360 M & CR), was top 10% of my class with Cum Laude honors and was Student Body President and captain of the soccer team.

At my current college I am part of an interfaith group, club soccer team, and collegiate Model UN (my college hosts a conference for high schoolers every and I am chairing one of the committees).

I want to transfer to a few colleges in particular but would be open to other suggestions!

Desired schools -- UPenn, Georgetown, Northwestern, UVA, UNC-CH

What do you all think? Is my head to far up in the clouds?

Where did you apply out of HS? What were the results?

I was rejected from UPenn ED (its my dream school and I know the chances are minimal, but i did an internship in one of the departments since then and can get a good rec from a professor there)

I was accepted at Lehigh, Lafayette, American, and my current school
I was waitlisted at Haverford

I don't think I set my goals high enough out of HS

I think you will be much better off waiting 2 years and applying as a junior transfer. It's highly unlikely to get into schools as a soph transfer you could not get into as a freshmen.

At chapel hill students applying for their junior year get priority. you will get into UVA for sure and Gtown and Penn acceptance rates are under 18%. whats your current school and why r you looking to transfer?

i go to a liberal arts public school in new jersey and I'm looking to transfer for academic and social reasons. I don't feel academically challenged and I don't see myself living around the people I'm living around for the next three and half years. Does the school I transfer from matter in transfer admissions?

I know my top choices are reaches, but are they within my range

would that be the college of New Jersey?

I don't know if it's taboo to state my current school because I don't want to bash them, or want anyone else to for that matter, but yes.

chapel hill give priority to junior transfers, you could probably get into UVA because they are very transfer friendly, the other schools are a reach for pretty much every transfer who applies because they admit a very small portion of the students apply and there retention rates change every year. try umich or uiuc.

hmm I was trying to relocate somewhere south and not too far away from NJ, being that my family is having some issues at home and I don't want to completely separate myself from that situation. I feel like North Carolina, a 5 hour drive, is the max I could go. If the admissions deadlines are in March, will I have to notify them of my 2nd semester grades after I send in my application?

Did you consider/apply to Rutgers? It has to be different socially due to the size and location. Depending on your major maybe the academics are different as well. I wish my kids wanted to be academically challenged. They wouldn't even get into TCNJ!

Thank you for the compliment njfootballmom, and I'm sure your kids are going to do well with whatever they do! But sometimes a school doesn't work for a student and I believe that is happening to me :(. I have not looked further into Rutgers because of familial problems that have occurred in the past and Rutgers does not seem like a viable option in my household.

I'm looking to go down a little more south!
