ur CRAZY! well i was just reminded of the likely letter crazy last February…i got mine on February 16…thats when everyone got theirs…so ye…wait for it

Actually i’m not a first year applicant, but a second-year transfer. I assume you would know nothing about them, but I thought I’d answer your question. So no waiting around for likely letters for me =P Just waiting for late-April/May 1

where r u transferring from?

Virginia Tech =P The friendly neighbor…I’m trying to transfer into SEAS, instate and such, only a 3.2 though, 3.6 HS (4.2 senior year…had a bad junior year), 8APs, 1380, good ECS/essays/recs ect ect ect =P

I got in ED to the engineering school, i’m just wondering. What drew you to UVA eng from VT?

VT concentrates mainly on the tech/science/engineering curriculum. As a strong liberal arts student, and one who enjoys history/philosophy/religion/arts classes, UVa offers many more of these types of classes. Since I know I want to attend grad school, but unsure about under which discipline, I think a broader education would be more benificial to me. Right now I’m planning Business school for grad school, and I think an education broader than just engineering would definently help me. I’d be happy to PM you my “why UVa” essay if you really want. Also, the opporunities at UVa are endless, even with the smaller undergrad size.

Sounds about right, shoebox. Never forget that UVA has far, far stronger job recruiting and students, not to mention smaller class sizes. Engineering rankings are an excellent example of why rankings aren’t everything.

Agreed. Everything at UVa just appeals to me more. I’ll be honest: I never even applied first-year to UVa because I figured it’s engineering would be weak because its such a liberal arts college. However, now I know it’s definently NOT weak, but just different. Now at VT, Ive realized I want more out of college. Most people say “oh why dabble in the other classes when you’re in an engineering program” but that’s not the point of being a student. Yes, I want a great engineerin education, and I wouldn’t attend a LAC to get a CompSci degree. But a broad education is important to me, and I just won’t get that at VT. I’ve also gotten the “you’re at the best just wanting better”, but its not that at all. I want a school that fits my wants, and UVa does, from curriculum to social life, from ECs to finanical issues.

Liberal arts college? No. UVA’s science programs are the strongest in the state.

shoebox
I agree! That all sounds about right and are the same reasons I fell in love with UVA and decided to apply early to the Engineering School. I was just surprised to hear all that from a Hokie, when I’m used to hear (from VT advocates) how they think it’s silly for me to go to UVA when I want to study Engineering. But you pretty much hit the nail on the head! Good luck transferring!

Cav - true, but compared to VT it’s much more liberal. That was my point, I guess I definently worded that wrong =P

Live4Football - Yeah, I wish I had put much more effort into looking at the different engineering programs. I thought I would just want engineering, but now I wish I had realized what a broader education would do for me.
Also, I think I may be one of the few E-school applicants coming from another engineering program, especially a top 20 overall/top 15 public engineering school like VT

Any questions pertaining to this forum?

Its hard to believe that nobody else has questions?

OMG, im a SENIOR MEMBER! After two years on CC, im proud to be a Senior Member. haha

I disagree that UVA has the strongest science programs in the state - let alone in the country. None of their bio/chem/physics depts. are well-known at all. In fact, I’ve met so many students that complain about the lack of quality in the physics dept. The math department is even worse. Their professors can hardly teach at all… I still think that WM and VT have more to offer in these fields

Agreed. But that’s all that VT offers. Ugh, us Virginians are so spoiled =P As for the physics dept here, yes its great, but let me tell you: my physics teacher is one crazy little man. Then again, I stand 6’0" and he’s a mere 5’6" if he’s lucky, which I guess just puts the typical physics teacher stereotype on him.

What’s funny is I keep asking myself why I’m trying to transfer out of the #11 public engineerin institute into a #30-something. But its not the indivudal programs, but the overall “touch” that UVA has =P That’s why I pick UVA

Maybe you might want to re-consider transferring to WM or any other school out of state since you’ve exhausted the top schools in VA.

Nah, UVa is fine for me =P Heck, I could even deal with Tech. You couldn’t really pay me to go OOS, unless i’m going to Princeton or something.

People keep saying math is bad at UVA which worries me cause I want to be a math or astronomy-physics major…

Lets revive this board. Any questions from prospectives or those accepted through ED or those who just received a likely letter?
