Hey guys! I wanted to ask about first-year student eligibility. If, for example, I attend another university’s international foundational studies program this year, can I still apply as a first-year student to US universities?
Are you a U.S. citizen or an international student?
If you were to stay at this college…how would these courses be treated…IOW, would you have completed one year of college?
Have you graduated high school? As a general rule, if you take college classes prior to high school graduation, then you are eligible to apply as a freshman. If you take college classes starting in the fall semester AFTER graduating high school, then you will be classified as a transfer application.
In general, it is college or university courses taken after leaving high school that could cause you to be classified as a transfer applicant.
Different universities have different thresholds in this respect, ranging from any college or university courses after leaving high school to some threshold amount of credit attempted or earned to be classified as a transfer applicant.
I’m international student.
You are an international student. Would this “international foundations study program” be considered college courses IF you were to stay at that school. In other words, will these give you college credits?
And why do you want to do this international foundations program?
So I googled international foundation program and came up with several hits in the UK and one at the University of Toronto. There were no hits in the US. Here is what the Toronto program says:
The International Foundation Program (IFP) is a unique offering that combines conditional acceptance to the University of Toronto with intensive English language instruction and academic skills development instruction, combined with for-credit courses. The IFP is available to academically qualified international students whose English proficiency score do not meet the University of Toronto’s direct entrance requirements.
Successful completion of the IFP guarantees admission to the Faculty of Arts & Science, the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape & Design, or the Faculty of Music.“
So if this is the type of program that the OP is talking about, it sounds like it does include for-credit courses.
Then it’s very possible this student would be considered a transfer student when applying here a year later here?
So again I ask…why does the OP want to do THIS program instead of applying for college admissions here?
