First Year Seminar vs Regular English

Other than class size, what is the difference between fulfilling the first year writing req with a seminar vs with just english 125 or 124. Also how does Ross feel about First year seminars ?

The first year seminars are primarily a response to criticism that class size at U-M is too large and that freshmen are lost in large auditoriums. The class size in the freshman seminar are kept small and provide for a more interactive learning experience.

Most freshman satisfy the FYWR by taking English 125. English 124 has more of a literature component. There are several other courses that satisfy the FYWR - the best way to find them is to search the LSA Course Guilde. [LSA Course Guide](<a href=“LSA Course Guide Search Results: UG, Fall 2012, Other Req/Grp = IC (all)”>LSA Course Guide Search Results: UG, Fall 2012, Other Req/Grp = IC (all))

Your post seems to suggest that you can satisfy the FYWR with a freshman seminar. With rare exceptions, I do not believe this is the case. You should confirm this with your adviser if you looking to do this.

I do not believe Ross cares one way or the other whether you take a first year seminar. As such I would take the class only if you think it is interesting and whether it will be a worthwhile experience as opposed to what kind of tangible benefit or monetary reward will result from it.
